Jeremy M. Stone, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Bloomsberg Facility at Johns Hopkins University, is a world-renowned microbiologist and specialist on infectious disease. His latest accomplishments involve successful isolation of the CD-1 virus and appointment as special advisor to several top government offices in the war against bioterrorism.
Dr. Stone’s training includes a B.S. in Biology from Georgetown University (1981), as well as a Ph.D. in Infectious Disease and Immunity from Yale University (1987). He has taught and led research programs at UC Berkeley’s Center for Infectious Disease Preparedness, and more recently he served as the Director for Microbiology and Immunology research at Stanford. During the Gulf War, Dr. Stone was appointed as a member of the UNSCOM Task Force, responsible for assessing Iraq’s bioweapon capabilities.
Since arriving at Johns Hopkins in 2003, Dr. Stone has overseen significant advances in the institute’s work on infectious disease prevention and control, with a particular emphasis on immunobiology and viral transmission. He has received multiple teaching awards for his efforts and countless honors for his groundbreaking research and innovations. He recently delivered the Keynote Address at the ICEID 2008 conference in Atlanta, GA.
Dr. Stone resides in New England with his teenage son, Lance.
